New Pokemon Snap levels: Research Progression Guide

New Pokemon Snap levels are course-based Research Levels that change how each expedition behaves. Instead of raising one global character level, you improve Florio Nature Park, Founja Jungle, Lental Seafloor, and other routes separately by earning Expedition Points. This progression system encourages repeated research runs with new tools and higher-quality photographs.

After each expedition, choose photographs for Professor Mirror to evaluate. The accepted photos award Expedition Points to the course and its current variant, such as a daytime, nighttime, underwater, or Illumina route. Once enough points are earned, the course reaches its next Research Level.

The fastest reliable method is to complete expeditions consistently, submit useful photographs, and focus on the course you want to advance. You do not need to capture every Photodex behavior in one run. Early progress usually comes from photographing several different species and selecting the strongest available image for evaluation.

Use this progression route when raising a new course:

Course progression becomes more complex as the Lental Region opens. Standard daytime routes can later be joined by nighttime versions, Illumina Spots, underwater sections, and alternate paths. These variants should be treated as separate research targets because their Pokémon populations and behavior opportunities can differ.

Higher Research Levels do not simply make the same route harder. They change the timing and location of encounters. A Pokémon that was distant during an early expedition may move closer later, while a new interaction may require a tool introduced through story progression.

Research tools are important because many level-based discoveries cannot be reached through camera timing alone. Fluffruit can move or distract Pokémon, Illumina Orbs activate glowing reactions, Melody causes specific responses, and Scan reveals environmental clues or alternate paths.

A strong research loop combines tools rather than using one item repeatedly. For example, an Illumina Orb may activate a Crystabloom, while Melody or Fluffruit creates the second stage of the interaction. If the reaction seems incomplete, replay the route at a different Research Level and change the tool order.

Research Levels matter most when you are collecting four behavior-star categories, completing LenTalk Requests, or searching for Legendary and Mythical Pokémon. A high numerical score and a high behavior-star rating are separate goals. A four-star behavior can be valuable even if the framing is not yet strong enough for a top-quality evaluation.

Reaching MAX Progress

MAX is a useful completion milestone, but it does not eliminate every reason to revisit a course. You may still need missing star categories, stronger numerical scores, rare request photographs, or Legendary encounters. Treat MAX as the point where ordinary course progression is largely finished, not as the end of Photodex work.

Recommended Completion Order

1. Raise the main daytime course enough to open new story progression.
2. Unlock nighttime and Illumina variants when available.
3. Return to earlier courses with newly introduced tools.
4. Complete LenTalk Requests that require specific Research Levels.
5. Search alternate paths for rare Pokémon and special encounters.
6. Improve missing Photodex stars and photo quality.
7. Push important courses toward MAX.
